Friction Finish Line Challenge! 🚗💨🏁
CCS 7th grade scientists put friction to the test! Students used toy cars and measuring tapes to investigate how different surfaces affect motion.
They tested four surface: sandpaper, aluminum foil, felt, and cardboard, and measured how far their toy car traveled. After completing three trials with each surface, students recorded their results and calculated the average distance traveled.
Through this hands-on challenge, students discovered how different surfaces create different amounts of friction and can affect an object's motion! 🔬📏

➕➖ Scoot, Solve, and Learn!🏃♀️🏃♂️
CCS 7th grade math students got up and moving while practicing adding and subtracting integers, and solving integer word problems! Students “scooted” from station to station, solving problems and checking their thinking along the way.
Learning math can be active and fun! 🔢✨
This activity received compliments from the students! It is a win! 🥳

Learning + Engagement = Math Fun!
Our CCS 7th graders are building multiplication fluency while playing a spiral math game using playing cards, game pieces, and dice! Students are actively engaged as they solve multiplication problems, strategize, and compete their way around the game board.
Who says practicing math facts can’t be fun?

CCS 7th grade scientists became geologists today as they worked to put 🌎 Pangaea back together! Students used evidence such as fossil locations, mountain ranges, and continental shapes to piece together the ancient supercontinent. This hands-on Earth Science lesson helped students better understand continental drift and plate tectonics while practicing critical thinking and teamwork. 🧩🦴🌋

🎉 Ms. Young’s 2nd Grade Class Market at CCS was a HUGE success! 🎉
Over the past few weeks, students have been learning all about economics, budgeting money, goods and services, needs vs. wants, advertising, and even how to choose business partners. Then they put those lessons into action by creating and running their very own businesses!
Our student entrepreneurs came up with some amazing ideas, including slime shops, nail salons, snack shops, toy stores, Pokémon shops, mystery bag stands, bookstores, jewelry stores, comic shops, and even a photo booth! 🛍️📚💎📸
The creativity, teamwork, and excitement they showed throughout this project was incredible. Not only did they have tons of fun, but they also gained valuable real-world skills in communication, problem solving, responsibility, and money management.
We are so proud of their hard work, creativity, and all they learned through this hands-on experience! 👏💙💛

CCS 7th grade students proudly completed their **Peak Performance Plan** projects, where they studied an athlete of their choice and created a personalized training plan focused on fitness, nutrition, recovery, and hydration. Students combined what they learned about the human body systems with creativity, research, and critical thinking to design impressive final projects.
We are excited to share that these projects are on display for the community to enjoy at the Cottonwood Recreation Center from **April 27 – May 3**. We are so proud of the hard work, dedication, and talent our 7th graders put into this experience!

CCS 7th grade in math class! ⭕️
Today, students explored *circles* in a hands-on way! We used *paper plates* to create interactive notes while learning key circle vocabulary and formulas. Then, students measured the *diameter of real-life objects* and used their measurements to calculate both *circumference* and *area*.
It was a great day of combining *creativity, real-world math, and problem-solving* as students discovered how circles are all around us!

📏📐 CCS 7th Grade Math in Action!
Today in math class, our students became designers and engineers! They worked together to measure their classroom tables using tape measures and then used a **scale factor** to create accurate **scale drawings** of their tables on graph paper. By carefully measuring and translating the measurements to a smaller scale, students practiced precision, problem-solving, and teamwork. Check out the photos to see our mathematicians hard at work. 👏📊✏️

Today at CCS, in 7th grade math class, we brought geometry to life with a hands-on challenge using "spaghetti noodles!" 📐
Students explored the **Triangle Side Inequality Theorem** by attempting to build triangles with different lengths of spaghetti. They quickly discovered that not every set of three lengths can form a triangle. Through measuring, cutting, testing, and rearranging the noodles, students saw that the sum of any two sides must be greater than the third side in order for a triangle to exist.
It was a fun way to turn an abstract math concept into something students could see, test, and experience. 🍝📏✨

So proud of our CCS 7th Grade Civil War Museum Exhibit Project! 🇺🇸✨
Our students worked incredibly hard researching, designing, and creating museum-quality exhibits that bring Civil War history to life. Their completed projects are now on public display at the Cottonwood Public Library and the Clemenceau Heritage Museum, where they will be showcased through February 27.
Thank you to our community partners for supporting student learning beyond the classroom and giving our students the authentic experience of being historians and curators. If you’re in the area, stop by and check out their amazing work!

☕️ Best. Day. Ever.
CCS 7th grade Hot Cocoa Social!
Today’s Hot Cocoa Social in the courtyard was a total vibe! 🌞
Not only was the cocoa 10/10, but we also did a Connection Circle to show off our mugs from home! 🏠☕️ We’re officially ditching the single-use plastic and paper cups to help the planet. Every student brought their own cup, and honestly, the mug sharing was strong.
Highlight of the day: Seeing everyone's unique mugs.
• The Cocoa: Extra marshmallows and mini candy canes? Always.
• The Vibes: Fresh air and catching up with everyone! 💬
• The Mission: Reducing waste, one mug at a time. 🌍♻️
Shoutout to Mrs Bray for organizing and making the hot cocoas, and to everyone for bringing their own cup and making this social eco-friendly!

✨ Cottonwood Community School Update ✨
Today at Cottonwood Community School, we wrapped up the week with our monthly Character Awards Assembly! This month, we were honored to have the assembly led by Marshall Shill, a member of The Firefighters—a professional baseball team on the Savannah Bananas' Banana Ball World Tour.
Marshall Shill grew up right here in COCSD and was once a proud Lobo himself. Our students were thrilled to welcome him back, and in his honor, we declared December 12th “Marshall Shill Day” at CCS!”
A huge thank you to Mr. Shill for helping lead our assembly and for inspiring our young learners with his story, energy, and community pride. ❤️⚾🐺
