About our Principal

Heather Wacker is a homegrown principal, having attended the Cottonwood-Oak Creek School District for her elementary and middle school education. She has since dedicated over 22 years to serving her school community, now as the Principal at CCS for the past three years. A graduate of Northern Arizona University with a Bachelor's Degree in Elementary Education and Grand Canyon University with a Master's Degree in Educational Administration, Mrs. Wacker has a deep-rooted passion for education and student development.

Before stepping into her role as Principal, she served as the Assistant Principal, Athletic Director, College and Career Readiness Coordinator, and a Social Studies Teacher, demonstrating her versatility and commitment to supporting students in many aspects of their academic and extracurricular lives. Her dedication to offering students opportunities for growth outside of the classroom is evident in her recent invitation to present at the National Summer Learning Association conference in Washington, D.C., where she shared insights into the district’s after-school and summer programming.

A former varsity softball coach at Mingus Union High School for 10 years, Mrs. Wacker has coached all age levels from t-ball to junior college softball, showing her deep commitment to student-athletes. Outside of her professional duties, she enjoys refereeing basketball, hiking, and cheering on her two children at their sporting events.

Mrs. Wacker firmly believes in the power of hard work and perseverance, often quoting the phrase, "No one cares, work harder," a mantra attributed to former Navy SEAL Jocko Willink. She embodies this philosophy in her leadership, constantly encouraging others to push through challenges and give their best effort, regardless of external recognition. Her dedication to hard work, grit, and fostering growth makes her a valued leader in her community.
